X and Y not XXL

They are back for a few weeks now and they have easily won the battle against Oasis. Coldplay's new album "X and Y" was supposed to be totally different from the two predecessors. Fortunatly it is not. There may be more electronicnical sounds, more drum loops and keyboard bombast, but it is still Coldplay. Melody, Martin's voice, slow pop-rock that you cannot get out of your mind easily. So it is only a gradual change.
What is really amazing, is how many people would like to see the band in concert. The music is really good for relaxing and hold your woman in your arm but there is no power in it to keep you standing for several hours in a concert hall or stadium. Maybe it works with your girlfriend standing next to you. And it may be good in a small club but the music is not made for huge arenas.
And one word about Chris Martin. He is trying hard to become the next Bono, which might work out fine when Bono is promoted to become Jesus. But please, interviews with popstars are the same category as interviews with sportsstars: there are only few times something intelligent gets out of it (though it is not only the stars' fault as the journalists ask a lot of silly questions).
